The Jewel in the Crown
Winter Wonderlands, Ice Rinks, Christmas Lights, Panto Sets, and Octoberfest kept the crew busy along with the local venues kicking back into action with over 10,000 hours and 250 jobs. The Big Show was in Cardiff with the meeting of Anthony Joshua and Wladimir Klitschko at The Principality Stadium. Rock City supplied crew for the Rigging, Staging, Lighting, Show Spots, VIP and Hospitality Sweats within the stadium with numerous associated events running parallel outside, a big weekend that went off without a hitch.
The number of arenas in the UK that now have the capacity to warrant hosting a Joshua fight at the moment are limited and the Principality Stadium has one advantage over them all, it has a roof!
The fact that the Principality can guarantee that everyone will stay dry – not least the boxers and VIPs at ringside – was a big draw. But it goes far beyond a roof, over the years, the stadium, and the city of Cardiff, has proved itself to be capable of hosting world class events time and again.
Look no further than this summer (May News), when the Champions League final was held in the Welsh capital, leaving UEFA chiefs lauding Cardiff with bags of praise.
That impressed Joshua’s management team as the city once again proved that it not only has a world class stadium, but the infrastructure to support it.
Joshua fights are no longer simply about what happens in the ring, they are major events and Cardiff specialises in such occasions. Cardiff has been able to accommodate fans for countless rugby internationals, World Cup matches and, of course, each summer a series of major concerts with the likes of Coldplay, Justin Bieber and Robbie Williams performing to sell out audiences.
The Stadium is a jewel in Cardiff’s crown and one that Rock City has been associated with for 17 years and one that we are very proud to be a part of.
