“No one has ever done a show like this before”
October was surprisingly busy with the crews spread across the country, working at Aggreko Depots in Grimsby, Doncaster, Coventry and Swindon. With exhibition work covering Cheltenham, Bedford, London and Southampton. Crew were back in their venues at Guilford, Swansea, Newport, Cardiff, Bournemouth and Plymouth. Bristol taking the brunt across the board at the 02 Acdemy, Thekla, The Passenger Shed and Colston Hall. Unfortunately as predicted in September’s News an announcement was made by Bristol’s City Mayor on the delay of the new Bristol Arena possibly as late as 2020.
However the highlight was something a little special. No hype this time from the veteran promoter Harvey Goldsmith when he came on stage to declare that “No one has ever done a show like this before”. He was talking about the Bear Gryls Endeavour Tour that came to Cardiff, it was a bit of a cross between Cirque du Soleil, a science lecture and a blockbuster movie mixed into one. Giving an exciting insight into exploration and human survival.
A show of this size presented its own problems but with some tweaks and adjustments the majority of the production was installed . Rock City supplied over 65 crew and a backstage team of Runners and Catering Assistants. In all it was great to see something different and imaginative for all to enjoy.
With shows getting bigger and bigger, advanced technology, more weight, higher trim, South Wales and The South West is crying out for a larger venue!
